Paid sick days have been a central issue during the pandemic, with labour advocates and health experts calling for at least 10 paid sick days to curb the spread of infection. Jurisdictions across the globe have moved to provide this essential protection, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promising 10 paid sick days for federal workers within 100 days of taking office.
In this episode, we talk to Dr. Jesse McLaren, an emergency room physician and member of the Decent Work and Health Network. Jessie shares direct experience dealing with patients without paid sick days and discusses the intersections of labour and health. We also talk about Ontario’s Bill 8 and the significance of permanent and adequate sick leave policy.
