The last year has brought to the front the importance of socialist organization and revolutionary journalism. In 2024, working people are confronting the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, the cost of living crisis, climate change, and an emboldened right wing movement.
Over the last year, Spring has continued to organize to build movements that can confront these ongoing crises. We launched our annual fundraising drive on May Day and we’re asking readers to consider making a donation to help Spring continue this important work. You can donate here.
In 2023, Spring re-launched our podcast, Spring Radio, which has provided key coverage on several struggles including the Quebec Common Front strikes, the campaign to win Status for All, tenants on rent strikes in Toronto, and the fight for a free Palestine. Spring Radio has also been able to produce important socialist content, including how to centre equity in workers’ struggles, socialist understandings of climate change, and understanding the 1917 Russian Revolution.
Spring also organized our first Red October Conference in October 2023. Over 200 people came together from across Canada to discuss putting socialist ideas into action. The three day conference included sessions on building a fighting labour movement, the role of socialism and socialists, imperialism, socialists and fights for national liberation, the importance of building worker power, and understanding the role of socialists in elections. The conference ended with a meeting of the Spring Labour Caucus.
At the same time, Spring Magazine continued to publish articles about striking workers, fighting for Palestinian liberation, encampment evictions, tenant organizing, and more. And Spring continues to build local branches in Halifax, Hamilton, Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver.
To continue this work, we have a goal of raising $35,000 during our fund drive. Please consider making a donation today.
