SUMMARY:Phone Zap for Halifax Public Library workers
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, September 5 at noon for a phone zap in support of striking Halifax Public Library workers! \nLibrary workers are on the front lines supporting our communities and they need our support. \nAs the housing crisis deepens and more people need access to free resources and safe spaces\, libraries have become more important than ever. \nBut the library workers who make our libraries run are paid low wages while the Halifax sunshine list is full of cops making $100k+. \nLet’s show our support for library workers striking for decent pay and tell the Halifax Public Library and the city that we stand with library workers! \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Hamilton film screening: "Pride" (2014)
DESCRIPTION:Join Spring’s Hamilton branch on Saturday\, September 28 at 7:00pm for a screening of PRIDE\, an amazing film about challenging prejudice while building working class solidarity. In the midst of the 1984 British Miners strike\, LGBTQ activists mobilized support for the fight against Thatcher\, forcing the union members to rethink their own ideas about how we challenge oppression and exploitation. \nWe are asking $5-$10 sliding scale to support our 2024 Fund Drive! \nThe screening will be taking place at 7pm at Solidarity Place (51 Adair Ave S). SUMMARY:UPDATED: vancouver art build for Palestine
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: Dennise Velasco had a last-minute scheduling conflict! So we will come together for this conversation on another date in the future: stay tuned! We are still gathering this Sunday\, September 29th from 11am-3pm at St. Margaret’s Cedar Cottage (1530 E 22nd Ave\, Vancouver\, BC\, V5N 2P1) to make signs and banners for the October 7th Anniversary Rally! \nBring a friend\, bring some art to work on\, or just bring yourself! We will have music\, snacks\, and art supplies. \n💚🖤❤🤍 \nATTENTION! POSTPONED: \nJoin Spring’s vancouver chapter for a conversation with Dennise Velasco on Sunday\, September 29th from 11am-1pm at St. Margaret’s Cedar Cottage (1530 E 22nd Ave\, Vancouver\, BC V5N 2P1). \nWe will be talking with Dennise about how we can be effective organizers in our trade unions and in our workplaces\, and how we can build a fighting labour movement\, including how we can support current and upcoming strikes as well as how we can build rank-and-file support for other connected matters\, such as migrant justice\, disability justice\, and Palestine solidarity. \nDennise Velasco is an activist\, labor organizer\, human rights defender\, and former political prisoner from the Philippines. Dennise started his trade union work as a labor organizer at the manufacturing hub in the Philippines in the city of Valenzuela\, and advocated for workers rights in several high-profile cases. These included labor rights issues involving workers of the Jollibee burger chain\, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) telecommunications workers\, and Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) drivers. Now Dennise is organizing here in so-called Vancouver with Migrante BC\, a Filipino migrant workers organization that supports migrants fighting for decent work\, permanent status for all\, and an end to the exploitation and labour export policies that particularly impact Filipino workers at home and abroad. \n. . . \nThe space is equipped with a high-quality air filtration system and monitor built by a clean air engineer\, and masks are mandatory! The space is wheelchair accessible\, and open to all ages. You are welcome to join online\, or in person. If you have any further questions or access needs\, please email info@springmag.ca.
