SUMMARY:Is Revolution Possible? Lessons from Sudan\, Philippines\, & Sri Lanka
DESCRIPTION:Revolution seems to be on the horizon after popular uprisings in Sudan\, the return of the Marco dynasty in the Philippines\, and tens of thousands of people taking over the streets in Sri Lanka. Massive hikes in inflation\, unemployment\, and fuel shortages mark the immediate crisis of capitalism in these countries as people struggle against starvation and political repression. Protestors endure repression through surveillance\, imprisonment\, and extrajudicial killings. \nDecades of neoliberal reform\, ushered in by ruling elites\, have led to massive cuts in education and healthcare and the deepened poverty of farmers\, labourers\, and students across the Global South. But the story doesn’t end there. Regular people fight back and build movements for their liberation. \nWhat are the prospects for revolution in Sudan\, the Philippines\, and Sri Lanka? How do we build a united struggle? What role do global imperialist powers play in propping up repressive regimes? And what lessons can we learn from these global struggles as we build the strength of our movements here? \nJoin us on Saturday\, August 6 at 12:00pm EDT for a discussion with activists involved in the global struggle against capitalism\, imperialism\, and oppression. \n🚩Muzan Alneel is a Sudanese engineer\, Marxist activist\, and blogger.\n🚩Myka Jaymalin is a Filipina researcher and community organizer with Anakbayan Toronto.\n🚩Krisna Saravanamuttu is a writer and community organizer with deep roots in the Tamil liberation struggle. \nThis session\, a part of the Spring Socialist Network’s summer convention\, is open to the public. \nEmail info@springmag.ca for the Zoom link.

SUMMARY:Building mass action for Palestine solidarity: Lessons from the UK
DESCRIPTION:Despite vicious attacks from the media and politicians\, Palestine solidarity has become a mass movement in the UK. Multiple demonstrations in London have drawn out over 250\,000 people. The November 11th march had close to a million people attend. Large actions are continuously happening across the UK demanding the government support a ceasefire. \nShabbir Lakha is an officer with the Stop the War Coalition\, which is playing a key role in organizing the movement. Join Spring for a discussion with Shabbir about how Stop the War and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign have strategically built a mass movement for Palestine. \nThis meeting is on Zoom.
